About
From an early age, Crystal Bernals passion for beauty was well-documented. As a child, it wasnt odd to find Crystal producing her own fashion shows, using the kids in her neighborhood as her models. Even at such a young age, she dreamed of creating a high-end shoe line drawing inspiration from fashion icon Gwen Stefani.
In high school, she dared to push the envelope with her keen sense of fashion and her zest for creative hair design. This California native attended C.S.U. at Fullerton, where she majored in Business Marketing. To make ends meet, she took only the jobs that worked around her busy school schedule. Upon graduation, and finding the business world mundane, Crystal made a life-altering decision. She would return to academia to pursue her passion and learn the art of Cosmetology. While taking courses at the Cerritos College Cosmetology School, her true calling became evidentto do hair and makeup and become a creative force in the world of entertainment.
One August day in 2006, she made a call that would change her life forever. She inquired about a position as a production assistant, her first step in putting her passions into action. Landing this job for the T.V. Guide Network, she became responsible for polishing the on-air talent and assisted in the coordination of their Live Events. From the Emmys to the Grammys, the Golden Globes to the Oscars, Crystal established herself in the world of television production.
Then came her big break! While working on the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, the production realized that their makeup department was short handed the day before the show. Without hesitation, Crystal ambitiously stepped in and didn’t fail to impress. As a result of her hard work and dedication, she secured a spot in the network’s makeup and hair department. Within 2 years Crystal became one of the network’s “go- to” makeup and hair stylists.
With this opportunity paving the way for her, she took on work in independent film, music videos, print shoots, fashion shows and commercials. As a professional makeup and hair stylist, she has worked with likes of Joey Fatone, Ray J., Giles Marini, Cloris Leachman, Marlee Matlin and Tanika Ray. Today, Crystal divides her time between the dazzling world of Hollywood glamour, higher education, working in the Starlet Hair Lounge and community service. Knowing no bounds, Crystal works as an instructor at her alma mater, Cerritos College, where she shares her knowledge with up-and-coming artists. Continuing to give back, Crystal also devotes her time to community outreach with a focus on troubled youth. In between all of this she manages to do her magical work of hair dressing at Starlet Hair Lounge in Cerritos. This rising star shows no signs of packing up her makeup brushes and cutting shears… her next big adventure lies just aroun
